ENHANCED PORTRAIT
Photo Copyright 2007 Rebecca BridgesShe looks so peaceful and dreamy to me. I liked taking all of the color out of the photo except for her beautiful skin. I finally got her to tell me what skin care products she uses to look like that.I wonder if she knows how pretty she is, even when she is sleeping? We took this photograph outside, using the sunlight and a fill flash. Photoshop was used to motion blur the background, which used to be just trees and sky. I think people nowadays are getting more excited about portrait enhancements, and the stunning results that can be achieved with creativity.

PHOTOJOURNALISM

I am having a hard time deciding what to enter for the photojournalism category at our state fair this year. I need one color and one black and white. I like the bottom picture for the simplicity, but the ability to tell a story. I like the top one because it gives a bigger view of the scene while remaining dramatic. Then I think maybe scrap these two and just use something else. Ergggg.....

NEW PHOTO OPPS
Sometimes I wish I could just get out of Kansas for a while with my camera. Look at this awesome photo taken in Paris Las Vegas. Just gorgeous architecture. (Photo is courtesy of i4vegas.com) I would love to have a chance at seeing and photographing new places, new people, and different architecture than what is found in Kansas! I did have a great trip to Canada this summer, and was able to capture some really neat stuff then, but I had only taken my little point and shoot for fear of losing my Canon on the plane.

OPENING A PHOTO STUDIO

Copyright 2007 Rebecca Bridges
I have been doing some thinking about what it will take for me to open my own gallery/photo studio. I did some market research, and found that where I live, the market is pretty well saturated with portrait photographers, therefore not so feasible. Unless that is, I had a studio specializing in product photography. Such as fruits and vegetables, shampoo, ect., that would be used in newspaper inserts and magazing advertising. Something to chew on anyways.

PHOTOGRAPHING TEENAGERS

My sixteen year old daughter wanted her beginning of the school year photos taken so she would have something cool to hand out to all of her friends. She is a Junior this year, and did not want the same old boring blue background that is offered by the school's contacted photography company. So we went for a shoot of our own, and came up with these. I had them printed as die-cut senior style wallets. Her friends loved them, and are now asking for some for themselves!

PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE
I have been trying to pull myself out of my comfort zone when taking pictures. Looking for ideas in different places. This morning I decided to experiment with a few pieces of my home furniture to see what I could capture. I shot in color, but converted them to black and white for an older feel. Something different than my favorite florals or weather photography did come, with this photo of the back of a chair. Thusly titled "Chair".

THE PHOTOSHOP EXPERIENCE

It starts with a photograph. Then a layer style, image effects and simplifying of layers. I am currently taking a class titled "Intro To Digital Photography" which should have been titled "How To Use Photoshop and Illustrator." I think I will be posting some tutorials from what I already know, and from some hopefully new knowledge I acquire.

PRINTING AND FRAMING PHOTOGRAPHS

It's that time of year again when people start searching for Christmas gift ideas. Of course I think that much of my photography, printed on canvas and framed, would be perfect! If you are a photographer yourself, or have a favorite photo you would like to have professionally printed and framed, you should definitely check this out! It's easy, fast and fairly inexpensive, plus it gives your photographs a gallery look. Very nice!

DUCK POND

Nature photography is a bit tricky. It is sometimes difficult to get close enough to get a good image. I almost caught a pair of red birds, but the image was blurry because I was too far away. When I finally got close enough, they flew away. These were very friendly ducks! They didn't even mind posing for me!

HIGH SIDE LIGHT - OUTDOORS

Copyright 2007 Rebecca Bridges
I finally got the kids out for some beginning of the school year pictures. I really adore the black and white photographs, and they are being requested more and more by portrait customers. We did this one outside, and I used an off camera flash to create the high side light. This is my lovely five year old daughter, Riley. Forever a princess.

THE PRICE OF SKINNY
The Hoodia ingredient in Miracle burn is 100% Certified Organic Hoodia from South Africa. I wonder if it is a magic plant. I wonder if it will make me skinny. If I were thinner, would people take me more seriously? Would I get a better job? Would I feel better about myself? At what cost do I want to be skinny? Random thoughts on a Saturday...

ONE OF MY VERY FIRST SOLD PIECES

This is one of the very first photographs I sold, Titled "Morning, After Rain." A very large print is hanging up in a patient room at a women's health doctors office. He happened to be a huge K-State fan, so the purple color went well with his taste, while remaining visually appealing to his female clients. Another but slightly smaller print was purchased for decoration in a drug rehab center. I hope it shows what I was trying to convey with this one, with the glow from the inside...

KANSAS FLOODS OF 2007

The biggest flood I can remember since I have been alive. It seemed like the rain gods were on muscle milk or something, and we thought the storms would never stop. These two shots were taken on Pennington Road and at the Mitchell Chapel.
TIME FLIES WHEN YOU ARE BLESSED
Copyright 2007 Rebecca BridgesWhen they are born, you want the best of everything for them. You buy the best diapers, the best baby food, the child life insurance, and all the toys that money can buy. Then comes the day you look back on the baby portraits, and wonder how they grew up so fast. Now it is her time to shine, and become all that she dreamed as a child....

The REAL Photography Award
Major world photography award pays tribute to Nature, Development and Architecture
Cannes, 15 March 2007 – ING Real Estate, the world’s leading provider of global and local real estate solutions, has today launched the REAL Photography Award. The unique, bi-annual photography award is open to international artists who depict Nature, Development and Architecture and their interplay in an authentic, original and innovative manner. The winner will receive EUR 50,000 in prize money. The REAL Photography Award is unique because of its theme, global scope - artists from all over the world are invited to participate - and the sum of the prize money.
The theme reflects ING Real Estate’s business focus - the integration of Nature, Development and Architecture. It is also an expression of ING Real Estate’s particular interest in contemporary photography. “The integration and interrelation of Nature, Development and Architecture are key to our business. The trend has also become an increasingly important topic in international contemporary art. The REAL Photography Award pays tribute to this trend,” said George Jautze, CEO of ING Real Estate, during the launch ceremony.
Contemporary artists from all over the world are invited to send in their photographic interpretation of the award theme. Thirty entries will be nominated for first prize. They will be included in an exclusive travelling exhibition in November and published in a full-colour illustrated catalogue to be made available during the exhibition. An international jury, whose members have earned their spurs in modern art, architecture and photography, will select the winning entry from among the thirty nominees. The winning artist will be announced during the exhibition’s opening. The work of the short-listed artists may also be acquired by the REAL Photography Collection.

PROPS IN PHOTOGRAPHY
Photo - Book Cover - "Images of America""Gund, Americas oldest and most recognized stuffed-toy manufacturer, has produced millions of quality toys for more than one hundred years. Since Adolf Gund launched the company in Norwalk, Connecticut, in 1898, gund has prided itself on its founding values of quality, workmanship, and huggability. The photographs in Gund document significant events in the companys history, including prestigious awards, lovable products, and important people. Gund was making stuffed bears four years before teddy bears became the namesake of President Theodore Teddy Roosevelt. From Snuffles the bear to Muttsy the dog, these plush playthings fill millions of homes and hearts."
I love this book. It really shows some very creative ways of using props, specifically stuffed animals, in studio photography over the years.

MY DREAM CAMERAS

EOS-1D Mark III
The Fastest, Most Powerful Digital SLR in the World
"Canon's flagship EOS-1D Mark III is the most advanced EOS Digital SLR ever produced. It has a new 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor (APS-H size) with Canon's EOS Integrated Cleaning System and a 3.0-inch LCD monitor with Canon's Live View technology. The 1D Mark III has a redesigned 100% viewfinder, a new 45-point AF system, and can shoot up to 10 fps continuously with a maximum burst of 110 shots. Dual "DIGIC III" Image Processors work in tandem to speed up every process while refining image quality; a new, lighter body has improved weather sealing and shutter durability. Every facet of the EOS experience has been enhanced with the 1D Mark III. It's the new standard."- Images and text from the Official Canon Website
Now if I could only find an extra 5 grand laying around! Of course I would also need another grand for batteries, a new lens, and some extra memory. Oh how I covet thee! I keep trying to figure ways to earn the cash, as I would rather buy it outright than make payments. Maybe Ritz Camera will come up with a special package deal in the near future.... *sigh*

This one would do nicely as well, and comes in a packaged deal. Plus it has more megapixels. Then again there is always the Mark II with 16.7 megapixesl, but at a cost of around $8000 for the body alone. Oh how I would love any one of them!!
