HEART GOES OUT TO CALIFORNIA

So much real estate lost in the flames. More than that though, the memories, the lives of so many people have been forever changed if not destroyed. Images of a hurricane by fire it seems, though these folks seem to have been taken care of more quickly, more efficiently at least. Maybe something was learned from the past, maybe it all has to do with status. Regardless, my heart goes out to all of those affected. May your lives be restored quickly, at least to a place where you can start over again...

DRAWING PROJECT

I would really love to have one of those modern platform beds. This isn't one, but
this is my last piece to be inserted into my time-line drawing. This is a photo I borrowed, then used the pencil filter to change it over into something my brain can understand. Just looking at the photo, I cannot tell where the lights and darks should be. That and I can't seem to get the curves right. When I get it all finished I will take a picture of it and post the whole thing. It's really kind of neat!

WE ARE ALL COLORS

This photograph was taken in a moment of chance, but as I looked at it I realized the significance. No matter what the color, our hands were all created equally. It's not the color of the hand that makes the man, rather, the choices the hand makes. That is what truly sets us apart from one another.

ABSTRACT

Image Copyright 2007 Rebecca Bridges
The rain in my brain.... I need a tv lift. SO I can put my tv wherever I want to. Maybe put a photo on it like a fake fireplace and leave it there for a week. Change it out with the seasons. If we still have seasons that is. Where I live it doesn't know if it wants to be fall or summer. One minute it is cold, then rainy, then hot. Make up my mind. Fireworks or Santa Clause?

FALLING DOWN

Caught rain drops on digital. Stop motion. What is term life insurance anyway? Are rain drops really round? Tear shaped? Why do we always draw them in the shape of tears as children? Because we are taught to? Why aren't they squares? Are squares found anywhere in nature? I can't seem to recall any. Just circles and spirals and ovals and such. Maybe some triangles. Kind of. I really want to find a natural square....

BIRDS ON A LINE

Image Copyright 2007 Rebecca Bridges
For some reason the birds around here are just crazy this year. Everywhere you go they are lined up on the power lines or swarming the trees. So much for parking underneath them. Why is it that if we as humans go up there and try to touch those lines, that we will get shocked, but birds and squirrels can sit on them and run on them and they are fine? Anyhow, I liked the silhouette that it made, so I took a picture of it.....

CIGARETTE THIRTY

Image Copyright 2007 Rebecca Bridges

I shot this one for part of my drawing assignment. A photo of a nasty ashtray. I know - terribly yummy, but I like it in an artsy kinda way. Of course I would rather be standing in line for Van Halen tickets right now instead of taking pictures of ashtrays and cigarettes, but it's for school so I don't really have much of a choice. It could be a clock face you know.....
I said "clock."

LONG EXPOSURE

Yes we were playing with glo-sticks! Halie made herself into a mummy in this one. I love playing with the camera with this kind of stuff - the possibilities are endless. Of course after taking a few photos like this, we decided to cut the little sticks apart and sling the goo all over the yard. It now looks like a horrid crime scene back there. But only in the dark! Heehee!

BUTTERFLY PHOTOS

Images Copyright 2007 Rebecca Bridges

We spotted this pretty butterfly on the roof, and while looking up at him, he flew right down and landed on Halie's chest. She guided him to her hands and he stayed still enough for me to take some photographs. When we went to leave, she tried to put him down in a patch of strawberry plants, but he didn't want to let go. It was a bit of a spiritual experience really. The top photo is my favorite, because I love how muted and delicate the fingers appear in contrast to the butterfly, who is bold in color yet delicate as well.

ANOTHER KANSAS WINDMILL PHOTO

Image Copyright 2007 Rebecca Bridges
I took this one just before a storm hit. I think it is probably one of my favorites to this day, of all my windmill photos. The clouds might have something to do with that I guess, and the way it is back lit, showing only the silhouette.

PHOTOGRAPH THIS!

I think that taking photos of women in sexy lingerie must be the dream job of every man I know. I wouldn't mind it myself actually. At least it would be fun, and kinda like having your own Barbie doll to dress up and take pictures of. I did not take this one, but I think it is a beautiful example of tasteful sexy photography. I guess the first step would be finding a model willing to pose in things like this, or finding a job that requires this of the photographer and the model!

BIRTHDAY PHOTOGRAPHS

This is a photo of my son that my Aunty Sissy took when we were over at her house a while back! His birthday is coming up November 5, and he will be 8 years old already! We have been asking and asking him what in the world he wants as a birthday gift, and the only 2 things to come out of his mouth are Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards, and an xbox 360. It sounds modest enough, until you consider the price of games and all the other stuff that has to go with creating a birthday party! I dunno kiddo, I dunno! One thing he will be getting for sure, it another year's birthday photo taken. I try to get at least a decent one of each one of my kids on their birthday, then you can flip through the photo album and watch them grow up right before your eyes. With tears.

ADVERTISING PHOTOGRAPHY

One of my first jobs as a photographer was in the advertising department at our local paper. Twice a week I would go out and take photos of the cars that were to be featured in the for sell section. (This car is a Chrysler 300, and if you are wondering, WDE, Inc. carries the latest Chrysler 300 accessories.) I hated taking photos of cars, and that is one job I have never missed. If they were all really cool cars, or old cars, I guess the job would have been a lot more fun!

PHOTO OF A DRAWING

Here is a photo of my latest 2 day drawing. I didn't get time to finish it all the way, but I am pretty happy about how it looks so far. I think I have drawn this book a few times now, and every time I do, it looks more and more like an actual book instead of some random rectangle. This is good. It makes me happy!
I have been getting a ton more work these days, which is also good. With all the new photography assignments coming in, plus the freelance writing I have been doing, I think I need some kind of budgeting software to help me keep track of my earnings and spendings. I don't think I have ever needed to sort that out before! This too makes me really happy!

SEND HIM YER BOOBIES!!

G-Man is supporting breast cancer awareness month by offering up a buck a boob! Have a look over there, then email him yer boobies for a great cause! No not yer real boobies - a photo of your boobies! I think we should send him so many boobs that his whole blog fills up with them so it makes a giant boob poster! Would you ever leave your computer then G??? LOL!
Seriously though, it's for a good cause, the fight that too many women must face every day. I am willing to bet that almost everyone knows someone who is being affected by it, or has survived it. Let's help G-man save the worlds' boobies!!

ANOTHER PREGNANT PHOTO!

I have still been working on this sweet gal's pregnant photos. She should be giving birth any time now if she hasn't already! Yesterday, Riley's kindergarten teacher was in labor and told us she would probably not be in to work today! LOL! I am thinking I will probably start hearing some birth announcements in the next few weeks! I hope I will get to take some pictures of the new babies too! They are so much fun and it has been so long since any of my kids were babies. Every now and then I like to hold one just to remember.

LIQUIFIED

"Plasma Cutting"
Images Copyright Rebecca Bridges 2007

Something interesting I decided to experiment with. I won't say exactly what it is, but the kids and I had a blast, as they had to help me out with this set of photos! Now that we have tested this method out, we are going to try and get a good series of at least 10 prints to make, and possibly show and sell. I have a bit of tweaking to do with my settings. I really like the abstract feeling in a photograph, and night photos have really become my favorite kind to take.

LONELY CHAIR

Photo Copyright 2007 Rebecca Bridges

I almost feel kind of sneaky for taking this photograph. Walmart definitely does not tout the Rolex of Restrooms, but this image was one I had to capture. It speaks volumes about the world we live in if you think about it. I won't leave you with my interpretation, but rather leave you to see it for yourself and have a good think! Bathroom, corner, chair, dirty, photograph....

ART THERAPY - DAY TWO

Image Copyright Rebecca Bridges 2007

If you are coming from my other blog, you can see the transformation from day one of my painting. It is really starting to come together now. More and more I am finding a pure love for more than just photography. The fact that I can use anything my eyes can find excites me. The painting now has photographs, Elmers Glue, hot glue, Kimwipes, cigarrette ashes, and of course acrylic and oil paint. For Christmas, I want Hobby Lobby. The whole store....

IMAGE OF KANSAS

Copyright 2007 Rebecca Bridges

What everyone thinks of when they think of Kansas. Windmills. I love them all - old, new, broken down. I think I have at least one hundred different windmill photos from all over the state, taken at various times of the year. I have an obsession for them and old barns as well.
